WHALTON RESIDENT ENJOYS COSY START TO AUTUMN
WHALTON resident Pam is celebrating a cosy start to autumn after winning 500 litres of heating oil courtesy of Rix Petroleum North East.
Child minder Mrs Evans won the fuel at this year’s Glendale Show by guessing the number of balloons in the cab of one of the Felton-based company’s tankers.
She said she had been persuaded to enter the competition by a Rix rep while visiting the firm’s stand at the show, but hadn’t expected to win.
Two weeks later, however, she got a call to tell her that her guess, of 160 balloons, was the winning answer and that the heating oil was hers.
Mrs Evans said it had been wonderful to get the news, which would save her hundreds of pounds on her annual energy bills.
She said: “I went up to Rix’s stand to see what price they were offering as I bought my heating oil from them last year. The chap I was speaking to said why not have a go, it’s free, so I did but thought no more about it after that.
“When they rang up to tell me I’d won I was over the moon. 1,000 litres of heating oil can last me almost a year, because I’m very frugal, so to win 500 litres is wonderful. It will really help with the bills.”
Tim Claxton, manager of Rix Petroleum North East, congratulated Mrs Evans on the win.
“I’m extremely pleased the heating oil will make a real difference to Pam and her family over the winter time,” he said.
“There were a lot of entries on the day but Pam wasn’t going to bother until we persuaded her to do so. When we informed her she had won, however, she was very pleased she did.”
