Agriculture Red Diesel
As leading red diesel suppliers, Rix can meet all your off-road gas oil needs. Red diesel, also known as 35 second oil or gas oil, is used to fuel a variety of farm machinery, including tractors and combine harvesters that are being used off-road and are diesel-compatible.
What is Red Diesel?
Red diesel has many names, including gas oil and 25 second oil. It’s a form of agricultural diesel that is infused with red dye, unlike road diesel which is sometimes referred to as “white diesel”. Other than this superficial colour difference, the diesel itself is essentially the same as standard road diesel. However, it’s the use that sets it apart.
What is Red Diesel Used For?
Red diesel is strictly permitted for off-road use only, such as for use on private land such as farms and fields. The red diesel cost has 40% less fuel duty than road diesel, allowing agricultural businesses to increase their profitability by spending less on the fuel needed to facilitate agrarian work. The stark red colour distinguishes it from road diesel. Because using red diesel to fuel on-road vehicles is illegal, due to tax evasion laws, the red colour of gas oil makes unauthorised use easier to spot.
That said, there are some circumstances where utilising red diesel-fuelled vehicles on-road is acceptable. These are as follows:
- Vehicles travelling between vehicles can travel on public roads for a maximum of 1.5km.
- Tractors being used to grit the roads can be fuelled with red diesel.
