March 1st is actually referred to as the first day of the meteorological spring. Unfortunately, however, it looks like spring might have to wait for the time being, as sub-zero temperatures from Russia are heading towards the UK.
The arctic blast, which has been nicknamed “the beast from the east”, is set to plunge temperatures below zero from Sunday night with heavy snow showers and harsh frost to follow with some parts of the country reaching lows of minus 8C.
This could be one of the coldest ends to a British winter in more than 100 years, potentially surpassing the cold snap we had back in March 2013!
Taking all of this into consideration, officials have issued a yellow warning for the UK urging us to be safe on the roads and keep a watchful eye on friends, family and neighbours who are more prone to risk from the cold, such as over 65s, young children and those who suffer from heart and lung conditions, making sure they’re heating homes to at least 18C.
