The spotlight has beamed down on Hull City of Culture for the past 12 months and it has been a ‘Hull’ of a year filled with an abundance of events, including ballet, exhibitions, debates, festivals and films.
And the spotlight now moves across to those at the helm of Hull’s fantastic year, as a group of civil, creative and business leaders who have aided in the success of the UK City of Culture have now been named on The Queen’s New Year Honours list 2018.
Among them is our very own Tim Rix, chairman of J.R. Rix & Sons Ltd who was awarded a CBE for services to the economy and regeneration in the Humber Region. Tim Rix is the 5th generation to come into the family business which started out as ship owners in the 1870’s.
Rory Clarke, Managing Director at JR Rix & Sons said.
“Everyone at J R Rix & Sons Ltd is absolutely delighted and very proud that Tim Rix is to be made a CBE in the New Year’s Honours.
“Tim has been very active in the local community for many years and devotes a great deal of his energy and passion to supporting the city of Hull and the surrounding region. He is Vice Chairman of the Local Enterprise Partnership with involvement in sub-boards for investment, business development and the North Bank Partnership. He is Chair of the City of Hull Leadership Board and Chair of the Regional Growth Fund, the Green Port growth programme.
“Tim is also a member of the Humber-wide Energy Board promoting the ‘energy estuary’ and a founder member of the ‘For Entrepreneurs Only’ group, a network aimed at supporting business start-ups.
“Tim strongly believes in working with people from across the political spectrum in the best interests of the local community by trying to bridge the gaps between politicians, government agencies, volunteer representatives and the business sector.
“From a business perspective, Tim is the fifth generation to come into J.R. Rix & Sons Ltd and he strives to ensure that our diverse group of companies involved in shipping, fuel distribution, manufacturing static caravans, property and selling cars, collectively employing more than 600 people, continues to thrive and evolve in an ever-changing economic environment.
