It’s always nice to see people getting a helping hand with their heating bills at this time of the year. That is why we were pleased to read in the Diss Express that South Norfolk Council is offering residents support with heating their homes this winter.

Rix Petroleum delivers many tanker loads of domestic heating oil to residents in South Norfolk from our depot in Attleborough, and it is an area we know and love.

As a result, we know this scheme will be of great value for many of our existing customers, so it is something we wholeheartedly support.

A number of options are available through the council scheme including the loaning of emergency heaters, boiler services grants for over 65s, boiler replacement grants, loans to help buy heating oil, emergency oil deliveries, and advice on how to buy heating oil at the best prices.

Loft and cavity wall insulation grants, Decent Homes Loans and severe weather packs are also available, the newspaper reported.

South Norfolk Councillor Yvonne Bendle, cabinet member for Wellbeing and Early Intervention told the newspaper: “The winter months can put pressure on households and the Council is working to help alleviate those pressures and support our local residents.

“By getting in there early and supporting people we can improve their health and wellbeing, and help them stay in their own homes.”

Good on you South Norfolk Council, say we. There’s no better feeling than knowing your family will be warm and cosy during the darker, colder months. We wonder if more local councils will follow suit and help out residents around where they are. We hope so.
