We are thrilled to announce that Tim Rix, Managing Director of JR Rix & Sons has been named as Director of the Year in a ceremony hosted by Yorkshire Business Leaders that took place at the Royal Armouries in Leeds.
The awards honour some of the region's best-known entrepreneurial leaders who are making a significant contribution to their companies and helping drive economic growth in the wider Yorkshire region.
The judges praised Tim for his accomplishments as an experienced industrialist and leader of the fifth generation, family-owned business. JR Rix & Sons started out as ship owners in 1873 and today has interests in fuel distribution, shipping, motor cars, caravan manufacturing and property.
They also made reference to his well-known commitment to the Humber region, where his company has operated for nearly 150 years, in roles such as vice-chair of the Humber LEP, chair of the City of Hull Leadership Board, chair of the Regional Growth Fund, and a key member of the Humber-wide Energy Board.
Tim said he was delighted to have been recognised at the prestigious ceremony, alongside many other worthy winners.
He said: “Although winning awards is not something I am motivated by, it is great to be recognised by my peers in the business community not just in East Yorkshire, but further afield in the county.
“J.R. Rix & Sons has been operating successfully for nearly 150 years so there is a long heritage that comes with that. There is a huge responsibility to respect the heritage but at the same time, to move the company forward, and that is what I have tried to do throughout my career.
“Like all companies, however, we do not operate in a vacuum. We have to have a good environment to operate in to be successful. By being positively engaged with that, by being involved with the various bodies and organisations that promote growth in the Humber region, our business is more successful and the area is more successful. Hopefully, over time, everyone feels the benefit of that.”
