Mrs Hughes said she had seen the competition in the paper and thought she would chance her arm.
“I decided I might as well give it a go,” she said. “I don’t regularly enter competitions like this but when I saw it I thought what have you got to lose?”
Mrs Hughes added she was surprised and delighted when she received a phone call to say she had won.
She said: “I got the call on the Friday afternoon after I had entered. I was thrilled, I couldn’t believe it. It was certainly a great start to the weekend."
“Heating bills are always a big consideration so it is great to know we will be well stocked up for winter.”
Robin Exley, manager of Rix Petroleum’s Spalding depot, congratulated Mrs Hughes on her win.
He said: “We like to bring some festive cheer to the season by giving people the opportunity to win 500 litres of fuel, delivered free to their door. After all, it’s a good feeling to know you are fully prepared for all the British weather can throw at you."
