As with all heating appliances, your heating oil boiler should be serviced on a regular basis to ensure that it is operating efficiently and safely. A qualified and experienced service engineer should carry out the service. There are a number of reasons and benefits why you should get your boiler serviced regularly, such as:
An efficient boiler burns less oil to produce the same amount of heat and it will also make it less likely that you will have to spend money at short notice to fix your boiler. OFTEC recommend that boilers are serviced on a yearly basis or as recommended by the manufacturer.
Without servicing your oil boiler on a regular basis, you are risking breakdown and considerable costs related to malfunction. A service is far cheaper than repairs so it’s a really good idea to ensure you make an oil boiler service a priority.
Carbon monoxide can kill
Boilers that aren't properly installed, maintained or ventilated can give out carbon monoxide. Symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning include headaches, drowsiness, nausea, breathlessness and stomach pains. Signs are sometimes difficult to identify and can be confused with tiredness or a cold. Unfortunately this silent killer can't be seen or smelt, so it really is important to make sure your boiler is serviced at least once a year to help reduce the chance of this happening. There are many carbon monoxide alarms available on the market which are a very good safety device to have fitted near to your boiler.
