indoor kids activities
February 18, 2014

The wet and windy weather we’ve been having lately is frustrating as it is, but what do you do when it’s the half term holidays too and you’ve got the kids or grandkids to entertain!? The summertime cries of “Are we nearly there yet!” have long past and are about to be replaced by the winter half-term moans of “I’m bored!” Fear not, though, for we have put together a list of activities to do with the kids that should keep them occupied for a while!

Go to a museum

You don’t have to stay under your own roof in the bad weather! If you can brave it from the house to the car, why not visit some of the brilliant museums the UK has to offer for kids. Here are just a few:

Eureka, Halifax

The Forbidden Corner, Leyburn

The Collection, Lincoln

National Space Centre, Leicester

Museum of Childhood, Edinburgh

Yesterday’s World, Battle and Great Yarmouth

Centre for Life, Newcastle upon Tyne

The MAD museum, Stratford upon Avon

Get Crafty

The perfect way to keep kids entertained when you’re stuck in the house, and you can enjoy making your own creations too! Here are some ideas from around the web:

Paint rock monsters

Make sock puppets

Make your own lava lamps

Make your own slime

Tissue paper butterflies

Have a baking day

Make a carrot cake from the Rix Recipes page, or check out this list of recipes from the BBC Good Food website.

Go to the cinema

Grab some popcorn and get down to your local cinema, where there are plenty of kid’s films showing for the holidays. Click on the films to visit the websites – which are hours of fun on their own!

The Lego Movie

Tinker Bell and the Pirate Fairy

Free Birds

Walking with Dinosaurs

Frozen (sing-along version also showing!)
