AdBlue® is a combination of urea and deionised water that helps reduce nitrous oxide emissions when sprayed into the exhaust system of diesel engines. This helps diesel vehicles comply with emissions regulations and ensure they are operating efficiently.
AdBlue® Tractor Requirements
If your tractor or agricultural machinery requires AdBlue®, you’ll find an AdBlue® gauge on the dashboard and an AdBlue® cap next to the diesel cap.
AdBlue® should be used for:
- Euro 6 diesel engines - road engines
- Tier 4 diesel engines - off-road engines, such as tractors, combine harvesters, etc.
It’s essential that only AdBlue® is only used for this machinery to protect the investment in agricultural vehicles and the AdBlue® installation.
AdBlue® and SCR Technology
SCR stands for Selective Catalytic Reduction and helps to reduce the harmful emissions released by diesel engines. AdBlue® is a crucial component of the SCR system and ensures the European emissions legislation is met, including Euro6 emission standards. Most heavy-duty agricultural machine manufacturers have already implemented SCR technology, but if you’re not sure, our team is here to advise.
Store your AdBlue® out of direct sunlight in cans, drums or IBCs, ensuring they are properly sealed and free of dust or dirt, to prevent contamination. Additionally, we don’t recommend refilling AdBlue® containers to reduce the risk of new AdBlue® being contaminated. However, you can store AdBlue® containers outside, and it’s fine to use the solution when it’s been frozen and thawed. Correctly stored AdBlue® can last for up to a year. Alternatively, you can purchase pre-packaged AdBlue® and follow the manufacturer’s guidelines.

Always fill AdBlue® into the AdBlue® tank. Both the pistol and the outlet are clearly marked.
Make sure only AdBlue® to ISO 22241 standard is used, NOT other solutions…
Keep AdBlue® equipment clean and free from dust or dirt.
You do not need additional protective clothing to handle Agricultural AdBlue although protective gloves may be a sensible precaution whilst handling both AdBlue® and diesel.
AdBlue® freezes at -11°C, this will not be an issue under most local conditions.
Do NOT fill AdBlue® into the diesel tank.
Do NOT fill diesel into the AdBlue® tank.
Do not use AdBlue® when contaminated with water or other substances, especially diesel fuel.
AdBlue® can be slippery when spilt; it does not affect concrete or brickwork. If spilt wash the area immediately with water.
What is SCR Technology?
AdBlue® is used in addition to Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR). SCR technology helps to reduce harmful emissions produced from diesel engines. This ensures the current European legislations are met including Euro6 emission standards. Most heavy duty tractor manufacturers have already implemented SCR technology.
