Does an Aga need servicing?
Yes – the majority of Aga cookers need servicing at regular intervals. Although Aga cookers have a reputation for being both reliable and consistent in performance, they still need some essential yearly maintenance to ensure you get the maximum performance and benefit for you and your family.
A quality Aga cooker service will ensure your cooker is running safely, efficiently and effectively. Aga also states that regular servicing is a condition of the warranty.
What does an Oil-fired Aga cooker service include?
Replacement of burner wick
Check for clean combustion
Post service clean
Internal clean of burner and flue-ways
Inspection of the controls, components and safety devices
Replace components if necessary
Inspection of tank and visible supply line
Inspection of fire-valves and filters
Inspect doors and lids to make sure they are properly insulated
How often should an Aga be serviced?
Aga’s guidelines state that different cookers need servicing at different intervals:
- Traditional oil-fired Agas need servicing every 6 months, which we can provide in Malton, Hull, Gainsborough, Montrose and Grangemouth.
- Traditional electric and gas Agas need servicing every 12 months.
- Gas Duel Control Agas need servicing every 12 months.
- Electric Duel Control Agas need a full service every 5 years, and an interim service every 2.5 years.
- Total Control Agas need a full service every 5 years, and an interim service every 2.5 years.
For the best results, we recommend booking an oil cooker service every 6 months. This allows our Aga servicing engineers to replace worn or tired parts and check for any signs that would indicate your Aga cooker may not be working to its full potential.
To help keep your system clean in between services we recommend using our Aga Cooker Fuel, specially formulated for oil-fired cookers. Keeping your system as clean as possible helps your Aga cooker run more efficiently and, as a result, keeps costs down.
How long does an Aga service take?
The length of an Aga oil cooker service depends on the amount of maintenance work required. However, on average, an Aga servicing should take a couple of hours.
Remember: Your Aga cooker cannot be serviced if it is warm. Please switch your Aga off and leave enough time for it to completely cool down before your service.
How much does it cost to run an Aga?
Most Aga cookers continuously run, which can make them quite expensive to operate as they’re always burning fuel. Therefore, the cooker needs to be burning fuel economically. This can be achieved by keeping the burner and internal flue-ways clean and free from carbon deposits. A clean heating system will allow for a better burn which means your heating oil will go further, saving you money on your heating bill.
