Wells-next-the-Sea is a port on the North Norfolk Coast and its beach is part of the Holkham National Nature Reserve. The Pinewoods that frame it were planted to protect the dunes which help with flood protection and also to protect local farms from the drifting sand. If you walk about a mile up the beach you will find Holkham Beach, which has been the setting for numerous films, television shows and music videos including Shakespeare in Love and The Duchess.
The beauty of the area and the family-friendly attractions make Wells-next-the-sea a popular holiday destination. As well as the beach and nature reserve, there are children’s play parks, pitch and put golf, a harbour and town centre with plenty of fish and chips shops, amusements, pubs, cafes and shops. There is a carnival held each summer and the nearby Holkham Hall is also open to visitors 3 days a week.
The harbour is home to an iconic Granary with overhead gantry. Now converted to luxury flats, this is a great place to rent holiday accommodation, and there are plenty of guest houses or caravan and camping sites too.
