HVO Renewable Diesel
HVO Renewable Diesel
Introducing HVO – a renewable liquid fuel alternative to existing diesel/ gas oil.
HVO Renewable Diesel is a fossil-free diesel product made of 100% renewable raw materials, which does not release any new carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.
What is HVO and how is it made
HVO is produced through a two-staged hydroprocessing process. First, the Vegetable oils/animal fats are hydrotreated. This involves adding hydrogen to convert unsaturated compounds into saturated alkanes (paraffins). The second stage involves alkane isomerisation and cracking, which brings the biofuel to a quality that equals or surpasses specifications for conventional petroleum fuels.
HVO is a drop-in alternative to fossil diesel, meeting EN 15940 standards and Fuel Quality Directive 2009/30/EC Annex II. There is no need to modify existing infrastructure
HVO is a greener renewable fuel
The UK Government aims to reduce vehicle greenhouse gas emissions to net zero by 2050 under its Road to Zero strategy.
HVO is a greener renewable fuel with a chemical structure almost identical to regular diesel. It has been certified as a sustainable fuel by the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) offering net greenhouse gas CO2reductions of up to 90%. It is also a non-toxic and non-carcinogenic.
HVO can be used in diesel engines and machinery without modification.
HVO can often be used without modification in diesel engines and machinery and is approved for heavy-duty road and off-road vehicles such as Scania, Volvo, Mercedes Benz, MAN, DAF, Renault, John Deere, Caterpillar, Steyr and Iveco. Please check that your particular vehicle make and model can use HVO by checking the vehicle/machine handbook or contact the manufacturer.

HVO Renewable Diesel FAQ’s
The fossil-free renewable fuel, called Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO), is not a biodiesel. It is produced from certified waste fats and oils. Unlike previous biofuels, HVO is manufactured by a synthesised process with hydrogen to create a greener, renewable fuel that does not contribute to deforestation.
The answer is YES!!
HVO can be used in all diesel engines as it has the same chemical composition as conventional diesel. It is best practice to confirm with your engine manufacturer that HVO can be used in your vehicle/machinery.
HVO can often be used without modification in diesel engines and machinery and is approved for heavy duty road and off road vehicles such as Scania, Volvo, Mercedes Benz, MAN, DAF, Renault, John Deere, Caterpillar, Steyr and Iveco. To check that your particular vehicle make and model can use HVO, please check your handbook or contact the manufacturer.
Up to 90% of CO2 is saved compared to regular diesel by changing to HVO100 Renewable Diesel. Based on initial industry testing.
The beauty of running hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) is the simplicity.
It can be used as a drop-in substitute for regular diesel, it can be stored in the same bulk tank and used in exactly the same way.
HVO is made from 100% renewable and sustainable raw materials and has up to 90% lower climate impact. In addition, HVO is odourless and emits fewer local particles than regular diesel.
HVO is a chemical copy of regular diesel that works at least as well as conventional diesel. There is no difference in your fuel economy.
10 years with good tank maintenance and storage conditions.
Yes, you can. HVO is fully mixable with regular diesel.
If possible, it’s best to start a fresh with a clean tank of HVO to guarantee its long storage life and high-quality attributes. Some of the benefits will be lost if they are mixed due to regular diesel’s properties. This does not adversely affect your engine though.
This renewable fuel is very different from previous biofuels it is not a biodiesel. It is non-toxic and biodegradable. The manufacturing process with Hydrogen means that a quality cleaner fuel that contains no sulphurs, metals or aromatics are produced. The ISCC (International Sustainability & Carbon Certification) confirms that the fuel is sustainable, made from certified waste fats and oils and does not contribute to deforestation.
Regular mineral diesel has a cetane number of 51 and FAME biodiesel has a cetane number between 50 and 65. HVO has a cetane number between 70 and 90 which provides better starting performance, clean combustion and less chance of waxing in extremely cold weather.
HVO fuel is a sustainable ‘green’ alternative to diesel and can be used in agriculture and commercial applications, such as construction, rail, events and public transport.
Commercial boilers, Tractors and farm machinery, Boats within inland waterways, construction machinery and much more.
HVO fuel is non-toxic and odourless as it’s made from 100% renewable waste materials.
