A NORFOLK school and village hall have received donations totalling more than £460 from leading family fuel company Rix Petroleum (East Anglia) Ltd.
The company, based on West Carr Road, Attleborough, donated £230.23 to St Peter and St Paul School Carbrooke and £230.22 to Carbrooke Coronation Hall as part of its programme of community support.
The money was raised via Rix’s heating oil buying syndicate which operates in the village.
By clubbing together to buy heating oil, residents make savings by ordering in bulk and delivery charges are reduced as the company can deliver to all residents in a single day.
As a reward for being part of a syndicate, Rix then donates 0.4 pence for every litre sold to community projects and causes.
This year, St Peter and St Paul bought new clothes for their Year 6 students with the donation.
Headteacher, Hannah Wheeler, said: “We want to say a huge thank you to Rix Petroleum for the donation they have sent to us. It is wonderful for them to think about us, and to support us regularly.
“This year we chose to use the money to pay towards some Year 6 hoodies. This is a new thing for our school, and we felt we would like the oldest children to have something just a little bit different to wear, both at school and when we are out and about on visits.
“The staff have also got the same, which also makes the Year 6 children realise that we respect them as we do each other.”
Jon Dench, director of Rix Petroleum (East Anglia), said the oil buying syndicates benefited both the company and local communities.
Rix operates many syndicates across East Anglia and always welcomes opportunities to expand into new areas.
Mr Dench said: “Our oil syndicates mean members can save money on their fuel bills and they help cut our carbon footprint because we deliver to all members on the same day, meaning our tanker journeys are reduced.
“Because we make savings, we like to invest a percentage of that back to communities as charitable donations.
“We are delighted to have donated to St Peter and St Paul and the Coronation Hall. Residents support us by being part of our buying syndicates, so it is great to give a little bit of that back.”
