The dark nights are upon us and its starting to feel like winter is just round the corner.
You’ve probably got your winter woollies out and turned your heating on, but have you checked that your heating oil storage tank or Aga cooker are performing to their best? If you have any blockages this could decrease the performance and could end up costing you more money.
Here’s a few tips for how make sure your heating oil is in tip top condition.
- Try adding K+ to your next fuel delivery. K+ heating oil combines a number of active ingredients to tackle problems such as excessive carbon residue and sludge build-up to give your oil boiler a better burn. It could also help to save you up to 10% off your annual fuel bill.
- Is your outside storage tank safe from theft? Make sure that you have taken all the preventative measures to avoid this. Click here for some crime prevention tips.
- Don’t let your pipes freeze. To reduce the risk of this happening, you should insulate your tank and pipes. You can also purchase additives that lower the freezing temperature of heating oil, or purchase pre-treated oil. Another option is to install an electric heat sheet that warms your tank when the temperature drops, although this is relatively costly.
With temperatures dropping, and the rumours of snow about, don’t leave it too late to top up your tank for the Christmas period. December is a notoriously busy time for our Rix drivers, so be prepared and place your heating oil order as soon as possible.
Winter is on the way, batten down the hatches.
