Frequently asked questions about AdBlue
All SCR technology EuroIV trucks and buses will require the use of AdBlue. All trucks and buses registered after 1st October 2006 must be EuroIV compliant.
No, Rix AdBlue is a urea-based catalyst delivered from a separate tank attached to new EuroIV trucks. Metered directly onto the manifold, it neutralises pollutants and particles converting exhaust gases to nitrogen, harmless steam and carbon dioxide.
Rix AdBlue is the environmental solution that can save you money! Taking Rix AdBlue costs into consideration, manufacturers estimate that the improved fuel consumption can deliver a £750 net saving to the annual running costs of an average high mileage truck.
Rix AdBlue is used at about 4-6% of diesel consumption. So consumption per average 44-tonne truck is estimated at:
- 40 litres per week
- 170 litres per month
- 2000 litres per year
Tanks have a AdBlue tank capacity of approximately 70 litres so weekly top-ups should be all that is required.
Onboard diagnostics will progressively reduce engine power to 50% allowing a 100km ‘limp home’, however, we recommend that each vehicle carries a handy 10 litre size container - offering a 400 mile safety margin.
